What a difference a week makes........

What a difference a week makes.......

For the second time in 7 days, Wrexham U8’s made the short trip to the Old Pant Brickworks in Rhos for another fixture against our geographically closest rivals. In contrast to last week, the weather was perfect for open rugby and the Wrexham team did not disappoint the travelling support!

This season Wrexham have struggled to “get out of the blocks” and have been caught cold early on in numerous fixtures – this was definitely not the case on this occasion. Wrexham quite literally came out with all guns blazing – and what a start it was.
Everything seemed to come together – direct running, support , defence and tagging.

The first match was a very one side affair with Wrexham dominating from start to finish. Some excellent performances all round meant that most players got on the score sheet. But in a one sided fixture such as this, it was not the attack but the defence that was the most pleasing aspect for the coaching staff with Wrexham limiting Rhos to only two scores in the first match. Man of the match performance from Lewis for his defensive organisation.

Wrexham A 14 – Rhos 2
Joseph (2), Rhys(4), Sam(1), Josh(2), Lewis(1), Ella, Charlie(4)

The second match was again one sided, but the young Rhos side put in a stronger attacking display scoring 5 tries of their own. On this occasion the Wrexham defence was caught out on a few occasions early on. However, following a few words of encouragement from the coaching staff on the touchline, the defensive line once again started to get some structure. Congratulation to Dan, who heeded the advice from the touchline and began to be aware of danger and organise the defence – Man of the match on this occasion.

Wrexham B 11 – Rhos 5
Matty(2), Max(2), Daryn(1), Oliver(1), Morgan(1), Dan(1), Ben(3)

Finally I would like to say a big congratulations to the Rhos team. We should remember that this is a young team, some of whom are playing the game for the first time. On this occasion they came up against a more experienced team that has been playing together for a few years. They never gave up and scored some excellent tries. Very well played and I’m sure the next match will be closer.
