Wrexham vs Rhos

Wrexham U8's made the shortest of trips for this local derby. In what has historically been a battle ground for some fiercely fought encounters between the senior teams, Wrexham travelled to The Old Pant Brickworks with a strong squad.

It was doubtful whether the match would be played given the horrendous weather conditions throughout the night. However, players from both teams took to the field determined to play their hearts out. The rain passed over leaving only a strong wind for the players to deal with.
Rather surprisingly, a large crowd turned out to watch the match and they were not to go away disappointed as both teams played some outstanding rugby.

Wrexham, as has been customary, this season were able to divide into two teams.

The first game was a close affair. Some strong running by the Wrexham players meant thy outscored their counterparts by 8 tries to 6.Some excellent performances were topped by a man (lady!) off the match performance from Ella whose support play was exceptional. Just goes to show that you don't have to score tries to put in a good shift for the team.

The second match was a more one sided affair. Wrexham taking to the field and dominating from the first to the last whistle. That is not to say Wrexham had it all their own way with Rhos scoring some exceptional individual tries. But, once again, it was the support play and clinical play that won the day. Some excellent runs and support play meant that most players got on the score sheet. Special mention to man of the match Dan for his excellent running. In the end Wrexham ran out 13-5 winners.

Finally, I must congratulate all the players from Rhos and Wrexham for playing the game in such difficult conditions and making relatively few mistakes. Thanks also to the parents and supporters who turned out to support the teams.

We look forward to welcoming Rhos to Bryn Estyn in the near future for the return fixture.
