Wrexham U8 ended the season with an excellent display tag rugby at the Welly tournament at Llandudno. Wrexham ended second in their group, just one point away from making the final. Combining with U7 and cubs, which made up almost half the squad, they mat

The U8 have been a consistent side throughout the year with only 8 players to chose from, and only recently going up to 9 with Oliver joining the side a couple of months ago. U7 players have played for the U8 before but 5 players joined the U8 in this tournament and a cub joined the squad today. Despite this mix of players, the team played as though they had been playing together all season. This tournament also gave the opportunity for two sets of brothers to play together. The Wright brothers, Matty and Sam, and the Roberts brothers, Reuben and Ianto both got to run out together.

The try machine of Sam Jones ran in some great tries again during the tournament. Oliver scored his first competitive try with a determined run through the defense. Rhys ran really strongly today and made some brilliant off-loads. Luke and Dylan linked up well both scoring from switch moves but also gave out some great passes to create other scores. Sam W and Jack made some twisting and junking runs to cross the line for ties. Charlie, Iwan and Matt all made great runs and got on the score sheet. Joseph and Sam E played really well and both made some great runs. Ianto, in his debut, made some great runs an took a few really good tags.

All together it was a great tournament with the U8 showing how they have improved this year, the U7 showing that they can play at the higher level, and Ianto letting everybody know he is ready. Well done to everybody for a great season.

Thanks to the parents for their support this week, and for the whole of the season. There has been some cold, wet and windy days through the season and the trip to Llandudno this weekend was a match for anything the season has thrown up. Despite the weather, the Welly tournament was a great event and thanks to all the teams  for the great games and Llandudno for their hospitality.
