Good win on the road

Wrexham head coach Alan Jenkins was very pleased with his sides performance as they defeated Bangor 95-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham travelled North in a rich vein of form after some impressive attacking displays in recent weeks have left them with a very favourable looking points difference.

The free-flowing rugby continued as Jenkins men emphatic victory meant they continue to keep pace at the top of Division Two, with small hopes of promotion still alive.

Jenkins said; “It was a great performance, our defence in the first 20 put them under huge amounts of pressure and we were clinical enough to capitalise on those mistakes. After that it was just about not letting up.”

Jenkins also had very high praise for his backline, including Dodd brothers Olly and Nick, who played some fantastic expansive rugby.

“Our forwards won us the ball back and all the backs had to do was convert our moves. Our running lines were great, Olly and Nick were on fire, but everyone else contributed.”

The visitors had their tenacious defence to thank for their first score, after some fierce tackling in the Bangor half, a loose pass was pounced upon by Olly Dodd, who walked it under the posts.

Minutes later, some nice interplay with scrum half Owen Weston off the back of a scrum, put the centre in for his second score.

Full back Nick Dodd then got his first of the afternoon as he juggled the ball before showing a clean pair of heels to pull away from the covering defenders and going over.

He then had his second as he received an inside ball from brother Olly in the wide channel as he went underneath the sticks.

A brilliantly well worked set piece put Matt Whiteley through a hole and he was able to put it on a plate for Weston who dotted down.

Whiteley then got a try for himself as after the hosts were under pressure, the centre intercepted a floated pass and touched down below the posts.

His centre partner, Dodd grabbed his hat-trick as he got on the end of a well weighted kick from fly half Jacob Hughes to cross.

Ed Evans then got his first of the afternoon as the ball was played wide and he did well to finish in the corner to give the visitors a healthy lead at the break.

The second half began as the first ended as Hughes did brilliantly to evade a number of tackles before putting it on a plate for Olly Dodd to grab his fourth of the afternoon.

Evans then got two quick scores courtesy of some excellent expansive rugby, the first was a smart finish in the corner, before an explosive break from James Price allowed Evans to cross for his hat-trick.

Dodd grabbed his fifth after a good break from brother Nick allowed him to go under the sticks untouched.

The full back then went from provider to scorer as the ball was moved wide and he went over for his third.

Whiteley got his second as he pounced on a loose a loose ball before strolling over the line.

Dodd completed his double hat-trick after some nice interplay with Price created the space for him to dot down.

Wrexham travel to Llanidloes in two weeks’ time with hopes that a victory their combined with other results going their way could lead to promotion to Division One.
