Wrexham head coach Alan Jenkins believed his side played some of their best attacking rugby in their convincing 69-7 victory over Llanidloes on Saturday.
In glorious sunshine and in front of a host of sponsors and old players, Wrexham put on a show with some fantastic free-flowing rugby.
Jenkins said;” It was a good win for us, credit to Llanidloes, and big thank you to Adam Jones and Aaron Hughes for helping us and them out.
At times we played some really good rugby, we got the ball wide quickly and it worked really well for us, very pleasing.”
The hosts were quick out the blocks and had their first try within a minute as the ball was shifted wide and winger Ed Evans went over for a score.
Moments later and Sam Rogers had his first score of the afternoon after the forwards won a scrum against the head, the ball was moved wide and Rogers crossed.
Wrexham’s third try came courtesy of Nick Dodd who gathered a chip kick before dummying the winger and running it in from near half way.
The bonus point was secured midway through the first half through Bailey Rae, after a very well worked set piece move, which should have pleased the coaches a lot. The ball was moved quick to the left, where a deft inside ball from Rogers allowed Rae to charge over unchallenged.
Rogers had his second not long after, a strong break and offload from captain Calum Chaloner, created the space for Rogers to go over.
He then grabbed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time as he made a break in the centre of the field before showing a clean pair of heels to beat the opposing fullback on the outside.
The second half began in similar fashion to how the first ended with Rae getting his second of the afternoon, some lovely hands allowed the winger to cross in the corner.
He then completed his hat-trick in similar fashion as after some patient play, the winger broke down the right before beating the last defender and diving in the corner.
What happened next will be remembered for generations.
The restart didn’t go ten metres and everyone switched off other than Rob Moore who gathered the ball and burst away from the Llanidloes forwards before a number of dummies and “a strong handoff” on the fullback allowed him to crash underneath the posts for a brilliant solo try.
Llanidloes did get a score for themselves as their second row dived over from close range.
The visitors enjoyed a little purple patch midway through the second half but that was ended as Rae grabbed his fourth of the encounter. The ball was stolen on the Wrexham line and carried out by Dodd, who offloaded to brother Olly, the ball was passed right to Rae who ran it in for a spectacular try, which left Jenkins stood in awe applauding from the sidelines.
The last try of the afternoon came from Jamie Weston who after receiving the ball out wide, rode a couple of tackles before walking over in the corner to complete the victory.
Wrexham have a week off before they travel to Bangor still with promotion hopes in mind.
