Disappointment all round for Wrexham in their first game of the season away to Newtown.

Wrexham travelled to Newtown with high hopes for the new season and this seemed to be the way it was looking in the first ten minutes of the game, with Wrexham putting pressure on the home team in the opening encounters and when the opportunity arose moved the ball through the back line for Ed Evans to score the opening try. This seemed to spur the home side into action and they too soon crafted a good try of their own. The home side, spurred on by this put pressure on Wrexham at every opportunity and Wrexham’s indiscipline gave the home side penalty after penalty in kickable range of their outstanding kicker who only missed one all day. Wrexham started to come back into the game in the last 20 minutes of the second half only to be denied two push over try’s as the ball was deemed by the ref to have been held up over the line. Wrexham then ran the ball down the back line again to score what was to be a consolation try at the end. So to summarise we started well and we finished the stronger but the bit in the middle needs working on and don’t give penalties away as even though we outscored the home side on try’s we gave them the opportunity’s to win score 22 - 13. Next week we take on Colwyn Bay who are on their day one of the best in our league but that’s because they are coached by an ex Wrexham player LOL. So gents we need to cut out the penalties fast!
For me man of the match for Wrexham was Luke Thornhill and for Newtown it has to be their kicker who killed us off.
