An impressive 47-12 win at Holyhead saw Wrexham progress into the next round of the WRU bowl, with hopes of a potential trip down south now being possible.
Wrexham headed into the game having won three out of three so far this season and were hoping to make it four.
The home side came out firing early on and threw everything at the visitors, but Wrexham’s defence held strong and thanks to the boot of Jacob Hughes edged into a 6-0 lead.
Wrexham winger Jack Ratcliffe then scored a fine try after after beating two defenders and running it in from over halfway for a converted score.
Scott Leckie soon crossed in the corner for a second try after some good work from centre Cillian Paget. Hughes converted impressively to make the score 20-0.
Wrexham’s third try swiftly followed as Nick Dodd made a break before kicking ahead and regathering to score.
The hosts got one back just before the break when fly half Rhodri Parry, brother of RGC back row Mei, broke a tackle to score an unconverted try.
Holyhead opened the second half scoring with Captain Owain Jones crashing under the posts to make the score 25-12.
Wrexham soon hit back after some good work from the forwards, Jack Harrison dived over from close range.
That score seemed to put the result to bed, as not long later Ed Evans scored a try after some nice hands from the backs.
Fly half Hughes soon added another seven points to his personal tally after spotting a gap in the Holyhead defence, he pulled away from the covering defence to stroll under the posts.
Ratcliffe claimed his second try of the afternoon, with another good finish in the corner, after some good work from Man of the Match John Morton.
Head Coach Alan Jenkins looked forward to the possibility of a trip down south, “Was a very tough game and we had to work hard for every point today.
We knew what we were going to get and we dealt with that well, with the forwards fronting up and the backs making the most of that.
The draw is now open so we’re hoping for an exciting prospect of a South Wales team and a big weekend away.”
