It’s been a busy few months at the Club with Minis and Juniors kicking off their Facebook and Instagram pages, Callum Riordan starting his role as the Hub Officer and the usual busy schedule of games and training and of course all the end season tours and presentation nights being planned.

Rachel Braisdell-Petty has been working tirelessly to get the new Social Media pages up and running and it is safe to say these pages have made an immediate impact for showcasing everything the Mini and Junior Rugby Teams do. We look forward to improving and developing our social media strategy across the club so that news, fixtures and events are presented in a timely fashion.

In our last letter we talked about the Hub Officer appointment which has been filled by Callum Riordan. After an induction week with the WRU he has now started working with a number of schools and introducing himself to a number of the teams across the club. The plan is for Callum is to spend a number of weeks with each Secondary and Primary school at a time. This will allow him to develop their Rugby offering while building solid relationships with the schools for future engagement. So far Callum has been working with St Joseph’s and Alexandra, with discussions with Bryn Alyn and Rhosnessni High Schools. Callum will so be running Summer and half-term Rugby camps at the club. Dates and times are being planned now.

The Clubhouse has been very busy these last few weeks with visiting teams making themselves very welcome and enjoying the facilities. Abercwmboi have made a return visit for a Wrexham Vets game and to watch the Wales vs England game afterwards. The feedback we have been receiving form visitors is how welcome they have been made. So, I thank you all for helping these teams feel so welcome. We have also been busy with private functions and the calendar is filling up quite well. It is therefore, it’s really important that teams book there presentation nights as soon as possible. The club will be purchasing trophies for each team so please put your returns into Becks as soon as possible.

Following on from the recent media coverage highlighting serious deficiencies the WRU have decided to bring forward plans to restructure the WRU Board to move forward with greater diversity particularly gender diversity. They also recognise that a number of board members should be elected as Independent Non-Executive Directors, brought in to deliver specific skills not necessarily related to rugby, finance and governance for example. There will be an Extra Ordinary Meeting of the WRU on the 26th March 2023, clubs are being asked to vote for or against the proposed board changes.

Whilst there is no certainty that the new structure will be a success it is clear that the current model is broken and that change is needed. Consequently, having carefully having considered the matter the Management Committee have decided that it is in the best interests of Welsh rugby at all levels to support the proposed change. You can view the proposal in more detail in the link below.

Finally, congratulations to the Youth team on reaching the final of the North Wales Youth Cup played at Eirias Park on Friday. Unfortunately they didn’t get the result they hoped for and deserved, but still a fantastic achievement and the entire club is immensely proud of the lads.
